I appreciate that this is a free service and that this is not easy to administrator without many limitations in place, but it's pretty impractical to believe that we're trying to beta test something with so many limitations in what we can do. I can't use profiler, I can't see simple things like dmv's, I can't change CDC settings...the list of I can't goes on and on... Is there a way to open this up a little bit so that we can actually test things out? I tried changing simple things like the compatiblity mode, or page checksum, or a simple dmv query to see what queries are running...nothing. So, thus far, I've been able to create objects in the database, and see that there are some additions to the SSMS and BIDS environment, but other than that, it doesn't provide much value.
Hi, it's me again. And, just so this gets captured somewhere, it should also be called the SQL Server 2008 Database Engine Beta. Analysis Services, Reporting Services, etc aren't running, so we can't test the rest of the product. Seems like complaining, I know...but really it's more like clarification of what is available.
Ryan, I can't seem to find out how to run Reporting Services on the server. No IE launch anywhere on the machine. Do I use a backdoor method to launch IE and browse RS as a user? Thanks.
